Innovative liquid cooling system for PC with a novel finned tube coil design
Design and dimensioning by CFD
Designed a new compact cooling system for pc and server computers, Tower case, with a Rth=0,19 °C/W and 144 W, it was reached a Rth=0,153°C/W that mean 160W with a 73°C of the Tc on the CPU at 45°C T ambient.
It was involved n°1 CPU so one cold plate with a radiator. To reach the objectives I had to use a microchannel brazed radiator (from a provider that I know), high performance small cold plate.
The mains difficulties were the small dimension allowed, and the low noise limit.
The work was made in collaboration with Product Manager, done lab thermal tests by desktop thermometer with thermocouples probes, Sound Level Meter, flow meter, thermal-fluidynamics simulations with EFD.Lab.

Selection of new resins and plastics to enhance thermal property: the problem consisted in small circulators pumps that melt due high temperature, I found a company that produce resins and we found a resin with mineral filler that could just solve the problem without too much increasing costs.
To increase the temperature resistance of the plastic it was choose a poly-carbonate polymer, a presence of water+glycol was considered, same molds, same molding timing.
